A complimentary and holistic therapeutic course for people living with or who have had cancer

Tuesday mornings & evenings

& Wednesday mornings

A cancer diagnosis (and any other life threatening illness) provokes an array of emotions, often including fear, grief, sadness and overwhelm. The process of various treatments and surgeries can leave a person feeling helpless, disempowered and utterly grotty. Yoga Therapy and Mindfulness can help a person to cope with side effects of cancer treatment, and teaches allies to support one through turbulent emotions and difficulties.

These small groups sessions are gentle with the intention to:

  • Empower you to make wise choices throughout the classes based on your current ability and energy level. Options are offered throughout each session, with the guidance for each person to discover their own unique needs, and range of comfortable ability on that day.

  • Calm and soothe the nervous system through specific breathing practices and body inquiries, de-sensitising the stress response and settling into a more restful state.

  • Gently stimulate the lymphatic system and increase circulation through slow somatic movements and supported postures.

  • Cultivate attitudes of self care, kindness and acceptance. Yoga Therapy is experiential, focusing on present moment awareness based on accurate and direct perception. It is non-judgmental, and is an invitation to become intimate with your experience, helping to steer you to make decisions that support and serve you.

  • Connect with, and build relationships within, a supportive community.

  • Experience qualities such as calm, peace, stability, contentment and joy, irrespective of the source of discomfort or suffering.

  • Manage pain and discomfort through pacing practices, relaxation and inquiry.

  • Discover and connect to your innate being as awareness itself, and recognising the impermanent nature of thoughts, emotions, beliefs and bodily experience. Gradually enabling you to let go of self limiting perspectives and connect to a greater purpose.

The sessions include meditation, gentle somatic movements and postures, breathing practices, guided relaxations, Yoga Philosophy and Yoga Nidra.

“From the perspective of yoga therapy, true health and healing entail understanding that within us is an innate wholeness that can never be hurt or harmed and is never in need of healing………….
yoga therapy supports us to embrace a path that entails recognition of our innate wholeness, which is always healthy, no matter our state of body and mind”
Richard Miller, phD, co-founder, International Association of Yoga Therapists
